*   If you are  not a MSHA member, you must contact the MSHA Central Office (888-SAY-MSHA or msha@showmemsha.org) and ask to be placed on the mailing list in order to receive a convention program.
*    Program Abstract:  The Program Abstract Page is the direct copy for printing abstracts in the Convention publications.  It should be carefully prepared and proofread.   The abstract should not exceed 100 words.
*    Learning Outcomes:  Learning Outcomes are behavioral statements reflecting the knowledge/skills participants are expected to demonstrate following participation in the session.  Learning Outcomes are written in the format, “At the culmination of the session the participant will be able to …” (e.g.,". … describe the function of the swallowing station.”  “…list three considerations in selecting candidates for cochlear implants.”) Click here for guidelines for Writing Measurable and Observable Learner Outcomes
*   Biographical Sketches of All Presenters:  Biographical sketches include the name of the presenters, their affiliations (i.e., practice settings) and contact information.
* Instructional Level:  All presentations must indicate level of instruction utilizing the following descriptions:
Introductory: This level assumes the audience has little or no information within the areas covered so that the focus of the presentation is based upon general orientation and increased awareness.
Intermediate: This level assumes the audience has general familiarity with the literature and professional practice so that the focus of the presentation is upon increased understanding and application by the participant.
Advanced: This level assumes total familiarity with current literature and professional practice in the area.  The focus is upon recent advances, future directions and application of research.
* Audiovisual Equipment Needs:  All student technical sessions/case study presentations will have an LCD projector available for use during the presentation.  If your presentation cannot conform to using a LCD, please specify AV needs and provide an explanation.  Your request will be taken under consideration.  Speakers making computer presentations must provide their own laptop computers.  AV is not provided for poster sessions.
* Handouts: In the interest of defraying some of the expense associated with presenting at the convention, MSHA offers online posting of handouts to all presenters.
  1. Handouts must be in sent to the MSHA Office in an electronic format.
  2. Omit unnecessary images and photos.  Include only those relevant to the topic.  If your presentation contains a large number of images resulting in a large file, we may find it necessary to convert your handouts to text only.
  3. Handouts are limited to 20 pages.
  4. Name each file with the session number and title of presentation (i.e. A3-Issues in Audiology).
  5. Forward handouts to msha@showmemsha.org  no later than February 26, 2010.  Handouts will be posted online two weeks prior to the convention.   The appointed liaison will receive email reminders to facilitate this process should you wish to post handouts online.
Policies for Accepting Papers and Suggestions:
* The Convention Planning Team will be guided in the selection of proposals by the following criteria:  (1) Quality, (2) Distribution of subject matter, timeliness, popular demand, etc., (3) Program balance (i.e. basic, applied research, poster, etc.), and (4) Broad-based membership participation
* Each proposal must designate a liaison.  The liaison will be contacted via email no later than mid-December with the Convention Planning Team's decision regarding acceptance or decline of proposals.  The liaison is responsible for relaying information from MSHA to all authors of the proposal.
NOTE:
* Presentations must not be used by members or nonmembers to promote, take orders for, or sell products or materials.
* Presenters are required to disclose to participants (prior to the presentation) any proprietary interest in any product, instrument, device, service, or materials discussed in a presentation as well as the source of compensation related to the presentation.
* All program presenters are expected to follow accepted procedures to protect human subjects.  Such procedures might include possession of evidence of a statement from a Human Service Review Committee authorizing the study as one that adequately protects the human subjects, possession of evidence informed consent and signed release from all subjects or clients approving the use of data or clinical materials for presentation in a public forum (essential for clinical material or presentations involving videotapes), or evidence from written material presented in response to this Call for Papers that would indicate that subject or client identity has been appropriately protected.
Description of Session Types and Specific Instructions for Submission
* Poster Presentations  provide a unique opportunity for dialogue between the presenter and the attende, and are an excellent format for presenting information that lends itself readily to display.  Authors must construct a poster exhibit that can stand alone in conveying information.  The completed display should contain the title and author(s), the statement of purpose, and if it is a scientific investigation, the principle results.  Both content and appearance of posters must be of high quality.  Dimensions of display boards provided by MSHA are 4ft (H) by 6ft (W).  Presenters must provide push pins or tacks to adhere presentations to the board.  Presenters may be requested to present posters a minimum of one hour to a maximum of two hours.  Presenters are urged to have additional handout information available for distribution at the poster session.
* Case Study/Technical Sessions provide an opportunity for students to present information of scientific investigation and/or case study and principle results.  Students provide information verbally in 15 minute sessions to include 5 minutes for questions and answers.  An LCD projector will be available for all case study/technical sessions.

Learning Outcomes
Well written learning outcomes are participant-oriented, measurable and observable.  Learning outcomes include ACTION words.  For example, words such as perform, identify, recall, distinguish, and differentiate are considered to be examples of action words acceptable to use when writing learning outcomes.  These words are easily observed and measurable.  Do NOT use words such as understand, learn or appreciate.  These words are vague and do not lend themselves to be observed or measured.   Click here for more suggestions for acceptable action words for Writing Measurable and Observable Learner Outcomes.

Provide at least 3 outcomes.
At the culmination of this session, participants will be able to ....
