STUDENT NEWS

A note from Student Board Member, Jenna Meyer, B.H.S.

Welcome to the student’s portion of the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association website. As a first year graduate student I understand that sometimes life can be hectic and stressful as we progress towards a future career in speech-language pathology or audiology. But, it does not have to be! There are resources available through MSHA to assist you through this journey. Becoming a member of MSHA will keep you informed on the current issues related to your field of study and give you the opportunity to start networking with seasoned professionals. By attending the annual MSHA Convention in April or the numerous workshops planned throughout the year, you can increase your involvement and knowledge with other members of MSHA. But, don’t think it’s all work and no play…the Quest for the Cup competition is a fun way for student’s to showcase their knowledge against fellow students and professionals. Feel free to explore the website for additional information about the 2010 MSHA Convention and other events.

Do not hesitate to join today! I am here to answer any of your questions regarding student involvement in MSHA or any other student-related concerns. Feel free to email me at jmmx97@mail.missouri.edu. Remember, I am here to assist you and make this process easier. I look forward to communicating with you and meeting you through many of the activities planned for the upcoming year!

MSHA annual membership is $15 and can be submitted online by clicking here or with a Printable Membership Form.

MSHA offers a Minority Student Leadership Program. The program provides mentoring for ethnic/minority students by professionals who are aware of the many challenges and benefits of being a minority in the profession of speech-language pathology and audiology. The program allows minority students the opportunity to explore, participate, and experience activities that are designed to facilitate leadership. It also provides mentors with the opportunity to impart wisdom and experience to students while enhancing leadership/management skills. This valuable program provides MSHA with an extremely effective vehicle for retaining these future professionals as MSHA members and ultimately, leaders within the state organization. An online application and Statement of Commitment form can be found at by clicking here

The deadline for submission is Friday, December 4, 2009

Please let me know your ideas about student involvement in MSHA.
