Preparation Webinar - Mobilizing Your Grassroots Advocacy Network: Keys to Success

To prepare for Legislative Day, MSHA will provide a free webinar on Tuesday, February 16, from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm to review the legislative process, learn how to speak with your legislator and current issues of concern.  You can earn .10 CEU for this event as well. Register for the webinar by noon on Monday, February 15.

Participants will gain understanding of the importance of grassroots advocacy and why it is important to advocate for the professions and the individuals that we serve. They will learn ways to advocate and what to expect when visiting legislators at the State Capitol and strategies for communicating with policy makers.

At the completion of this webinar participants will be able to identify two benefits of grassroots advocacy, list three strategies for grassroots involvement, identify three current issues impacting our state.

5:30 pm - 5:40 pm            Introductions and meeting agenda review
5:40 pm —5:50 pm           Review and discussion of MSHA legislative issues/initiatives
5:50 pm – 6:20 pm           Legislative process; Strategies for successful legislative visits
6:20 pm – 6:30 pm           Questions/Wrap up

Legislative Day, Februry 23, 2016

Please plan to join us for MSHA’s Annual Legislative Day on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Capitol East & West Alcoves on the 3rd floor in Jefferson City, Missouri. 

This event will offer .20 CEUs      

10:30 am Check-in at the MSHA Booth located on the 3rd Floor East Alcove of the Senate Building. Pick up your Legislative Day button. (Morning floor session for legislators begins at 10:00 am) 
11:00 am Ashley Fields will provide additional information to further enhance your face-to-face visit.  You are strongly encouraged to make prior arrangements with your particular legislator or his/her aides for the best time to visit. You may quietly visit the House and Senate sessions or visit your legislators at this time.
12:00 pm Pizza lunch provided – Location will be in the Senate & House Alcoves, off of the 3rd floor of the Rotunda. Group picture will be taken.
12:30 pm Further discussion and Q&A session of the morning’s activities. Continue to meet with individual legislators as available to discuss current issues and promote the profession.
1:30 pm Break down information tables and wrap-up.

Legislative Day registrations must be received by 3:00 pm Monday, February 22, for an accurate lunch count.

Learner Outcomes

Webinar - At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to explain two benefits of grassroots advocacy, describe three strategies for grassroots involvement and list three current issues impacting our state.

Legislative Day - At the end of legislative day, participants will be able to name two elected officials who may support our organizational causes, list two legislative issues supported by MSHA and provide two strategies for communicating with legislators.

This course is offered for up to .3 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Related area)
